Want to use a YouTube video in class but don't like exposing them to all the (often unsuitable) ads, comments and popups? Here's what you do:
1. Go to YouTube and find the video you want to show in class.
2. Copy the URL.
3. Go to www.safeshare.tv.
4. Paste the URL of the video into the box.
5. Click on "Generate safe link" and a new URL will be generated. It will be highlighted in blue.
6. Paste this new link into your browser and hey presto, the video plays on a fresh page, with no comments, ads or popups visible!
As an added bonus, you can also crop the YouTube clip, to edit out the parts you don't want. Here's how you do it:
1. Once you have generated the new safe URL, you'll see a green message (as in the screenshot above) that says "Do you want to only share a part of the video? click to crop.". Click this.
2. A new section will be added to the window where you can play the video again. Press play.
3. When you get to the part of the video you want to show the kids, click on "Set Start". It will display the time your safe video will begin.
4. Let it keep playing until you get to the end of the part you want to show the kids, then click on "Set End".
5. Click on "Ok". This will generate a NEW URL for your safe version of the video.
